A Magazine for the Artists I Know and Love

Where in the world did this idea come from?

Well, I am making a step towards one of my goals, to have my art on the cover of a magazine. My intentions are to someday be covered by (Art Forum) http://artforum.com, and when I realized that I could use my talents to make my own magazine I could think of no better way to spread out the positive energy! A friend (Steve Stone) introduced me to a great publisher, and off my imagination went, and landed here. And now I put my hand out to you for help and collaboration.

Currently I am looking for:

My friends to get involved! Hence why you are reading this! For future volumes I wouldn’t mind spreading it out to friends-of-friends, but part of my inspiration for this was to give the creative people I know a chance to get published and to be a part of the process.
These are a few of the types of people I am looking for:
Artists – to showcase their work, on 1-3 pages, it can include a bio, images, written word, etc…..
Writers – do you love to write about art, do you love to critique art? Let me know I would love to here what you have to say
Critics – (in relation to above) do you love to talk about art, specifically critique it, If you have some credentials then you could be a fantastic contribution to this project!!
Do you think you can contribute in another way? Let me know!!! For ex: I will need someone to help me edit and proof content (2 sets of eyes are better than one!)

What’s in it for you?

Well, simply put, a chance to get your voice/art out there. Everyone is on the internet these days, and we are too – but nothing can replace the experience of holding something in front of you and being able to show someone a page in a magazine. We also don’t know how well the internet will archive 50 yrs from now, but we know a magazine will still be around. I want to get published, so I am making it happen, and I want to be able to share it with my immediate inspirers and co-conspirators.
To start off, the magazine will be published through a wonderful, print on demand publisher. You place your order here, through the site, and the magazine will get sent directly to you! If you want to subscribe to the following 6 issues, you can do that here too!
AND we do BULK orders. Let us know if you want to order 5 copies of one mag and we will send them to you in one nice package!
Anyone can buy the magazine and you can also promote it through your websites and social circles as well.

BLUECANVAS I picked this up at Books a Million in Delray…. I love the layout, the simplicity, the way they showcase the artists – and anyone can apply!!! You bet I am going to create a page on their site!
art ltd I really like this magazine for the layout of the content, including the articles.
There are many many many art magazine out there, and one of my pet peeves is knowing the difference between the articles and the advertisements. I think it is okay yo have advertisers, but I also want the artists in ABSORB to stand out!
Currently I have the following ideas for sections in the magazine:
Artists: The meat of the mag! Images of your work. Including, but not limited to the following: Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Sculpture, Photography, Performance, Written word (poetry, short stories, creative writing of all types!), Digital Design …. (all fine arts apply here – if you have one not mentioned let me know!)
Contributors page: A place for the bios of the people who contributed content – we need a way for people to know who you are and contact you (if you choose)
Reviews: If you have something to say about art, an artist, or you want to critique your own work – this is the place.
News: Is there an art related event you are going to be involved in? Tell everyone, put it on paper, and make sure your grandchildren have evidence of your passion for art!
Video: as it does not work so well for a magazine – I would love to use the site to promote your creative video projects and animations…..

What is the future of ABSORB Fine Art?

Nothing is set in stone, this can become something large, we may be able to get sponsors and sell ad space and have a larger publisher, it all depends on who wants to contribute and be a part of this, and how that goes. For now, I am simply excited to put together a magazine with my creative friends and promoting the arts around me. The future will write itself.
